The Dollhouse Diaries

Sistas, you can’t deny how much you like dress up, trying on new styles and considering new cuts.  The Dollhouse was made with this in mind — combining the absolute sophistication of modern cuts and styles with the colorful attitudes and quirkiness of Ryan and his certified cutting, colouring crew (an experience in itself).  Pick your poison, dearies:  whether you need an evening with “grand-slam Diva-Glam”, or a “casual date without the wait”, we’ll see you at The Dollhouse, Dolls.

The Doll’s Paper Trail 2

In less than a year of establishment, The Dollhouse managed to position itself as one of the best hair salons in Phnom Penh. Well known for its cutting edge hair cuts and expertise in colour techniques for all hair types, an article in AsiaLife (Issue 57) even called it “The Dollhouse Effect” aptly for countless hair being done at The Dollhouse within a short period of time.

With The Dollhouse just passing its one year mark after a fantastic first year, The Dollhouse team joined the Cambodia Fashion Council as Cambodia Fashion Week’s Official Hair and Makeup Advisor. Cambodia’s first Fashion Week took place in November 2011 with The Dollhouse being the main hair and makeup sponsor supporting local and international designers like Eric Raisina, Don Protasio, Remy Hou and The Academy. Besides being featured in numerous Cambodia’s best magazines, some of our works were published in international magazines, Eloquence (Korea), Elle (Indonesia) and Quality Magazine (Germany)

Oh yes, did we mentioned that The Dollhouse got listed in the latest Cambodia/Laos LUXE Guide as well?

We will start off 2012 with not just a bang but two big bangs! On April 26, The Dollhouse is presenting its first hair and makeup show “Glamazon 2012 – A Feast of Extravagance” at Pontoon. It consists of a transformation segment where models get makeover  in Eric Raisina gowns and Waterlily accessories and an Avant Garde segment with nine models strutting on runway with OTT hair and outrageous outfits all created by The Dollhouse team in collaboration with Matthew Cuenca.

This year as well, The Dollhouse is expanding Paperdolls to its own store located in a secret alley off St. 240, appropriately named 240 and a half. With lots of blingy and quirky accessories, funky home décor and clothing from up and coming young international designers. Sit tight and brace yourself for more fabulousity. Bling on the Doll Domination baby!!

The Doll’s Paper Trail

Ryan began his career in Cape Town, South Africa with Carlton Hair International which is based out of the United States. He has also completed courses with Vidal Sassoon and completed an absolute plethora of coloring courses with Wella, Goldwell and L’Oreal (as all good doll maker’s should).

Ryan quickly joined the fashion and television world by doing work for South African Fashion Week, shows for Gucci and Tommy Hilfiger and magazines such as ELLE , Glamour and Marie Claire South Africa.

When this just simply wasn’t enough, Ryan packed up his toys (and scissors) and moved to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The pulse of Asia grabbed him by the heart strings and he’s been here – cutting away—ever since.  Ryan stayed in HCMC for over a year and then took his toys (and more scissors) to a fabulous upscale salon in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.  In Malaysia he never slowed down and did numerous shoots for Harper’s Bazaar and Cleo as well as Malaysian Fashion Week… a featured guest writer on Star newspaper’s beauty column and even dabbled in an educational television show on TV2 Malaysia. Here he worked and played for five years.

Ryan loves the challenge of work and life in Asia.  With his decision to build a life here, he’s branching out on his own and is pursuing the dream of his own salon – his dollhouse dream  – and there is no other place he’d rather spending his days playing house than right here in Phnom Penh.  Phnom Penh was made for Ryan and Ryan has made The Dollhouse for Phnom Penh.

What would a “dollmaster” be without a partner in crime? Introducing, Darick Ho a fellow “dollmaker” and a master in transformation specialising in rebonding and keratin treatments. Darick was trained at Andy Ho Hair Academy, a top hairschool in Kuala Lumpur. They worked together for the last 3 years which immediately sparked a friendship and a connection from their passion for hair. He too decided to pack up for some hair-raising adventures on the Dollhouse rollercoaster ride.  So begins Act I of The Dollhouse Diaries…
